 Ertugrulgazi Ilkokulu

Turkey

“Ertğrulgazi İlkokulu” is a public primary school located in the centre of Eskişehir. We are a public primary school with 90 students aged 5 to 10 years old and 8 teachers. We have also disabled students in our institution, who need extra attention to integrate with their peers and adapt to the new life conditions. We offer varied projects regarding interests, skills and level of knowledge to ensure that everyone in our school has the same opportunity to learn. The school has taken part in various projects concerning cleaning, democracy in education, safety, health and sports. Our aims are to build strong partnerships and to promote innovation and competitiveness of Turkish students abroad; to improve their speaking skills and to provoke their curiosity of other European cultures and traditions. We would like all our students to be involved in the project and learn how to manage it: to be active, responsible and creative – acquire the qualities that will be useful in future. Taking part in such project, for many Turkish students will be a chance to make European friends with and keep in touch in the future. We believe that it is one of the ways to deal with the growing aggression among the youth. By involving in this project, we aim to learn from our partners and share our knowledge with them. We want to be an inspirational role model about what we do to improve reading skills. We enjoy the idea of our children reading to other children and learning about our partners’ great books for children. We want to share our books with our partners and to set up a reading corner with the books we have taken from our partners .We believe that thanks to this project, which highlights the importance of reading skills, we will learn a lot and our school library will get new perspectives. This project pays great importance to reading and foreign language skills. We have held many reading events in order to enhance literacy, but we also want to carry out joint international activities. We would also be very happy to share our experience in this area. We think the activities of the project can help children to increase motivation and to enlarge their skills and their cultural horizons. We also want to disseminate the European educational experience in our region and motivate other schools get involved in project activities. They will also get satisfaction in their daily work making them aware to be part of the European community. It is also the best way to improve foreign languages and enhance intercultural awareness. Our success lies in the quality and expertise of our teachers who are very talented, ambitious and dedicated. They all encourage students to get involved in the projects and support them until the end. They would be honored to serve for the project.
