Scoala Gimnaziala Slobozia

Romania

The Gymnasium School Slobozia is situated in a village at 25 km from Iasi. It has also two others structures: The Primary School Slobozia and the Primary School Schitu Stavnic. In our school learn the students from 2 villages – Slobozia and Schitu Stavnic. Also, it's formed by 2 cultures: gipsy and Romanian students. We have 526 students, 69 pre-schooling, 268 primary school students and 189 gymnasium students. Only 50 % from our students go for a highschool in Miroslava or Iasi. We have 38 teachers (4 preschooling teachers, 14 primary school teachers and 20 teachers). Half from our classes have video-projector and laptop to be used. We also have a big library, with more than 2500 books. Our school doesn’t have a psychologist and it’s very hard to manage the early school leaving of the students. Also, they don’t have a specialized teacher to help them pass over the learning difficulties. The families are very poor and can’t unfortunate to pay a specialist for their needs. The main activity of the parents is to sell flowers, mushrooms or others products. Many of the parents don’t know to read because they haven’t finished the primary school. From this reason, it’s very hard for our students to learn without the family support. There are moments when the children are not allowed to do the homework, they have to go to help their parents, because there are families with 15 children. The most important fact is that they have difficulties in reading and writing, in pronouncement. As a particularity, even that they have poor learning results, they love the dynamic activities. We want to involve in this project, because we really believe that involving in an European project based on developing the reading skills will help our primary school students develop their reading abilities. Also, we have interested teachers in finding out more examples of activities through which we can motivate pour students to read, to have a critical thinking regarding the read opera and to become capable in taking decisions by his own as an act of mental development through reading. We consider that this project will help us promote the literature in our school, will help our children be more involved in reading as a response to the proposed activities. Our children love very much the art and involving them in artistic activities combined with the reading ones will help them fell more confident and involved in the reading activities. This project has four key persons. The financial responsible is the manager, the coordinator is a primary school teacher, and also responsible with the implementation. The responsible with the evaluation and dissemination are other 2 primary school teachers who haven't participated in a KA + project. In case that these persons will leave, another one will take his place and will be named by a special committee. For our school is the first KA + 2, but, the coordinator and the manager already had worked on another KA + 1 and 2 projects.
